ARKANSAS
MEDIATION/ARBITRATION SERVICE
Arkansas Mediation
Arbitration Service (AMAS) is a statewide provider of private settlement conferences
(mediation) and other alternative dispute resolution (ADR) services.
Using specially trained
lawyer/mediators, AMAS has, since 1990, been assisting the Arkansas legal, insurance, and
business communities in resolving hundreds of disputes each year.
An affiliate of
Oklahoma Mediation/Arbitration Service
What Is
Mediation?
Mediation is a voluntary,
non-binding, informal settlement conference at which the parties to a dispute (and often
their attorneys) and a neutral lawyer/mediator attempt to overcome a negotiating impasse
and reach a settlement.
How Much
Does It Cost?
The fee is comprised of an
administrative fee for AMAS and an hourly billing for the specially trained
lawyer/mediator. The length of the proceeding and the number of parties will affect the
cost. The allocation of the fee is up to the parties.
Do Most
Cases Settle At Mediation?
Yes. Based on hundreds of cases
annually, 80% settle the day of the mediation session/settlement conference. Of the
remaining 20%, one-half settle in a month, leaving the effective settlement rate at 90%.
What Are
The Advantages Of Mediation?
… Saving money. Over 95% of
all disputes and lawsuits settle before trial. By speeding up the process, mediation saves
the parties the enormous expenses of trial preparation.
… Giving the parties control of
their case.
… Saving time.
What Type
of Disputes Are Suitable For Mediation?
Mediation is a helpful tool for
disputes both in litigation and where suit has not been filed. AMAS has successfully
settled personal injury, contract, oil and gas, employment and numerous other types of
disputes.
